Week 06: Option Picks

Yeah, well, yesterday was a brutal day. So I had little choice but to exercise an option pick, patriots at chargers over 45. And that did not work out at Chargers 30, Pats 10. Needed one more stinking touchdown.

So Monday night, pulling the pin on option pick 2: Giants -8. The over is too risky and I hate unders because then I’m rooting for teams to NOT score. And I love scoring.

Boom Boom had to be committed after a run-in with Herm last week in Kansas City. But Norris Division stalwart AJ from Madison made the trip to Buffalo, NY, to sit in for Boom.

I had a topsy-turvy day of picks yesterday, culminating in the awful for me — good for football — night game between the Eagles & Bears. I have to take my hat off to Chicago. They were as tough as Al Capone, stopping a last-minute, first-and-goal drive that would have put the -3 Eagles/Correll Buckhalter over the top, and, incidentally, given me the push. Alas, after the nuttiness at the Meadowlands in which the Jets trounced the Cards and then the hallelujah, late-in-the-fourth TD by Tomlinson that put the Chargers up 10 over the Raiders, I almost can’t bear to go on. But go on I will, even though I ended the day a miserable 1 for 4.

I blame Herm.

Nevertheless, I’m still looking at Baltimore and the Steelers tonight. Haven’t yet decided what to do. Any thoughts, Gregory?

Redskins and Campbell Surprise in Game of the Week

I expected a pretty good game but I sure thought Dallas would win at home against the Redskins. But surprise, surprise. The new coach who’s never been a head coach before, Jim Zorn, has taken the skins and his 4th year quarterback, Jason Campbell, to 3-1, losing only to the Giants in the first week and beating the Saints and Cardinals at home and now Dallas on the road. Dallas was -11, unfortunately for anyone who laid it. The play was Skins +11 or the over at 46. We’ll probably be seeing new respect for the Skins from Vegas, just in time for the showdown at 1 p.m. next Sunday, Skins at Eagles.

Watching the Cards-Jets game is like watching an interview with Sarah Palin…

The Cardinals have become one of those teams I just can’t win with. Ever. Yet I never seem to learn, and here I sit, thinking they’re a good pick. Down by 34 at the half and all I can do is wring my hands, stamp my feet and hope for a miracle. I need a miracle!
